Beware of The Company You Keep (4)
As I continue in the Book of Job, I want to focus on the anguish of depression. And hopefully, be able to encourage you on why we must overcome it.
In chapter seven Job answers, “Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?” (Job 7: 1, KJV).
This labor is our judgment for Adam’s sin. “And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life” (Genesis 3: 17, KJV).
The Race Goes to The One Who Endures
Depression makes us stagnant. We foolishly assume that it is okay to waste away and do nothing. Unable to sleep, as we are attacked in our minds and bodies. Even Job questioned if this is what his life has come to. And how long must he suffer.
“So am I allotted months of futility and suffering, and [long] nights of trouble and misery are appointed to me. When I lie down I say, ‘When shall I arise [and the night be gone]?’ But the night continues, and I am continually tossing until the dawn of day” (Job 7: 3-4, AMP).
The Holy Spirit is speaking right now, and this is what he is saying:
1) Respectfully know where your strength lies. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5: 6-8, KJV).
Talents Are Given for Optimal Use
Can I tell you something? No demon in hell will have compassion on you. Nor will they ever consider sparing your life if they can take it.
2) God is saying, that if you fail to trust Him, you will have to answer for wasting your gifts: (Now you can read it in its entirety in Matthew 25: 14-30.)
“The one who had received one talent also came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a harsh and demanding man, reaping [the harvest] where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter seed. So I was afraid [to lose the talent], and I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is your own.’” (Matthew 25: 24-25, AMP).
This servant was “wicked” in the eyes of the LORD. Remember there are souls at stake! The judgment is just! “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 25: 30, KJV).
Jesus is Debunking Our Excuses
As I receive revelation from Him, I am told that nothing or no one shall deter our love for Him. This includes our insecurities.
Often, we want to wait until the circumstances are perfect. Or we feel as if we aren’t good enough. We worry about how man sees us.
Remember Job is greatly disfigured. But the Spirit says we must not let this stand in our way.
“My body is clothed with worms and a crust of dust; my skin is hardened [and broken and loathsome], and [breaks out and] runs. My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope” (Job 7: 5-6, KJV).
In these last days, time is running out for excuses. You must choose whom you will serve. Because even with inaction, you have chosen. This is what the Spirit is saying:
The Heart of a Man is Precious in His Eyes
1) For men: “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as a man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16: 7, KJV).
2) And for women: “Your adornment must not be merely external- with interweaving and elaborate knotting of hair, and the wearing of gold jewelry, or [being superficially preoccupied with] dressing in expensive clothes; but let it be [the inner beauty of] the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, [one that is calm and self-controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] which is very precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3: 3-4, AMP).
By now we should see that God is removing every cloak. And every excuse.
Greater is He That is In Me
At this point, Job was giving up hope, in verses 7-11, chapter 7, he said his life is but a breath, a puff of wind. That he would die soon. Because of this, he felt he had the right to complain to the LORD.
God does allow us to vent to Him with a sincere, humble heart. Coupled with respect. But we must remember and have faith in His tender mercies.
As I read further in this chapter, Job is in such distress that he just wants to give up. I encourage you to read Psalm 27, with emphasis on verses 13-14, concerning Job’s despondency. As I read it here, let this be a blessing to those who take it to heart.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
One Can Put a Thousand to Flight
“Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret place of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Seek The LORD’s Face and Live
“Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27: 1-14, KJV).
I want you to read that again and meditate on it. There is hope and an answer for every problem under the sun in His Word.
As spiritual warfare becomes more ominous, know this, “One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you”. (Joshua 23: 10, KJV).
Always coming from a place of love and in truth!!!
