God’s Laws Remain Very Relevant!!!
As we enter chapter 6 in the Book of Deuteronomy, there is a continued focus on God’s laws. I am led by the Spirit to point out a couple of things before we proceed, as many would think that sin is justified as long as we “repent”.
“For whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of [breaking] all of it. For He who said, ‘DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,’ also said, DO NOT MURDER.’ Now if you do not commit adultery, but you murder, you have become guilty of transgressing the [entire] Law” (James 2: 10-11, AMP).
“What shall we say [to all this]? Should we continue in sin and practice sin as a habit so that [God’s gift of] grace may increase and overflow? Certainly not! How can we, the very ones who died to sin, continue to live in it any longer? Or are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We have therefore been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory and power of the Father, we too might walk habitually in newness of life [abandoning our old ways]” (Romans 6: 1-4, AMP).
“For even though I did grieve you with my letter, I do not regret it [now]; though I did regret it —for I see that the letter hurt you, though only for a little while— yet I am glad now, not because you were hurt and made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance [and turned you back to God]; for you felt a grief such as God meant you to feel, so that you might not suffer loss in anything on our account. For [godly] sorrow that is in accord with the will of God produces repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but worldly sorrow [the hopeless sorrow of those who do not believe] produces death” (2 Corinthians 7: 8-10, AMP).
For Whom the LORD Loves He Chastens
Please be aware that Paul felt bad for his chastisement, just as a parent who disciplines their children, understanding that it needed to be done. While directly addressing those who may feel guilty to the extent of tears in one moment (worldly sorrow), then quickly forgetting as described here. “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1: 23-25, KJV).
God will confirm the blessings that are bestowed upon those who follow His laws. “Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: that thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all His statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey” (Deuteronomy 6: 1-3, KJV).
Pray for Increasing Zealousness in Love for the LORD
There is a blessing for those who follow the LORD’s commands in faith. When we say that the Old Testament is not relevant we are disregarding the Word of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. This one scripture confirms the relevance of His precepts, even today. “Do not think that I came to do away with or undo the Law [of Moses] or the [writings of the] Prophets; I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5: 17, AMP).
This next passage shows the diligence required of us. And the manner that we should pray for increasing zealousness in our love for Christ. Meditating in this Law. “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one [the only God]! (I am using the amplified version for this proclamation alone). I love my God’s expressiveness, His articulate fluency as He speaks of Himself, as only He can!) You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and your soul and with all your strength [your entire being]. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be [written] on your heart and mind.
“You shall teach them diligently to your children [impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truths] and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand (forearm), and they shall be used as bands (frontals, frontlets) on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6: 4-9, AMP).
Tell Them That I AM Sent Me to You
Let me digress for a moment. As I am reminded of the LORD’s omnipotence, with one of my favorite passages. As He expresses His authority, His externality, and that He exists outside of time. “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come into the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is His name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me to you” (Exodus 3: 13-14, KJV).
“And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which He sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not (As He is preparing to do again.), and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage” (Deuteronomy 6: 10-12, KJV).
Heed the warning through Celestial, the prophet of the LORD. When we are told to come out of her (Mystery Babylon), before we can do it physically, we must separate ourselves from her spiritually, emotionally and psychologically. Cutting all ties, lest we be as Lot’s wife. Because every thing starts in the heart. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4: 23, KJV). The Holy Spirit is saying to liken this unto the issue of blood that flowed from the woman. Her flow could not be stopped. She could not be healed until Jesus healed her.
As we prepare ourselves for what the LORD will do, meditate on this: “And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s Passover” (Exodus 12: 11, KJV).
Prepare Yourselves for Obedience is Better Than Sacrifice
“Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve Him, and shalt swear by His name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted Him in Massah” (Deuteronomy 6: 13-16, KJV).
The LORD’ precepts, His truths, are our strength. “Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes, which He hath commanded thee. (The amplified version states to keep them foremost in your thoughts AND actively do them.) And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken” (Deuteronomy 6: 17-19, KJV).
God’s judgments are fulfilling faster than ever. And as scary as they are, the people of God must be rooted in Him. This is where our faith comes in, so pray in wisdom and in guidance by the Spirit. There is a deeper spiritual meaning to this, ask the Spirit for discernment in the latter, as you pray the former: “The apostles said to the LORD, ‘Increase our faith [our ability to confidently trust in God and His power]’. And the LORD said, ‘If you have [confident, abiding] faith in God [even as small] as a mustard seed, you could say to the mulberry tree [which have very strong roots], ‘Be pulled up by the roots and planted in the sea’; and [if the request was (and is!) in agreement with the will of God] it would have obeyed you” (Luke 12: 5-6, AMP).
Parents Will Be Held Accountable for Laying the Foundation
“And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you? (God is reiterating the importance of not forgetting where He has brought us from and what He has brought us through!) Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: and the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household before our eyes: and He brought us out from thence, that He might bring us in, to give us the land which He sware unto our fathers” (Deuteronomy 6: 20-24, KJV).
As we close, pay attention! The LORD’s Word is fulfilling. As He opens up His Word with increasing wisdom and understanding. He is redeeming Himself right before our eyes. “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst” (John 6: 35, KJV). There is so much life in His Word that we barely scratch the surface in our lifetimes.
Obedience is integral. “So the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear [and worship] the LORD our God [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect] for our good always and so that He might preserve us alive, as it is today. It will be [considered] righteousness for us [that is, right standing with God] if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the LORD our God—just as He has commanded us” (Deuteronomy 6: 24-25, AMP). To be careful is to be cautious in one’s actions. Diligent.
