I Have Done No Wrong!!!
As I read in chapter 21 of the Book of Numbers, the Israelites were in the Negev, the south country. King Arad of the Canaanites heard that Israel was coming. He fought against them and took some of them captive.
“And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities. And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah” (Numbers 21: 2-3, KJV).
In that moment, the Israelites were victorious, praying to God, doing as He commanded as an instrument of divine justice to an extremely corrupt society. Their prayer was guided by the Holy Ghost. They did not murmur or complain. Submitting themselves to God’s authority and were thus successful.
“Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the [branch of the] Red Sea [called the Gulf of Aqabah], to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient, because [of the challenges] of the journey. So the people spoke against God and against Moses, ‘Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, nor is there any water, and we loathe this miserable food” (Numbers 21: 4-5, AMP).
As The Dog Returns to His Vomit…
Many of us believe that if we do the bare minimum that all of our past sins should be forgotten. And that God should wave His magic wand and give us what we want. But can I tell you something? God is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man, that He should repent.
We do evil in His sight, He then judges us in righteousness, but we think that we should decide when our punishment is sufficient. By His grace, He has already set the terms, that if we obey, we can still be victorious and more importantly, learn the lesson, with patience, being steadfast. So that we truly repent of our evil ways.
Let me put it this way. Imagine committing adultery against God, and although He forgives us, we continually complain, and gaslight Him. As if He should feel less than as we continue to blame Him for our imperfections. For our ungrateful nature. Without rectifying our wrongdoings. As if nothing that our Creator could ever do is good enough. Should we not expect His wrath as we continue to tempt Him? “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12: 14, KJV).
These People Honor Me with Their Mouths
“Then the LORD sent fiery (burning) serpents among the people; and they bit the people, and many Israelites died. So the people came to Moses, and said, ‘We have spoken against the LORD and against you; pray to the LORD, so that He will remove the serpents from us.’ So Moses prayed for the people” (Numbers 21: 6-7, KJV).
Now I call the Israelites unfaithful because they were the worst kind in their idolatry. And God is the loving Husband that would continue to forgive them in spite of their continued affairs. As the adulterers Israel had no true remorse but continued to ask for forgiveness and to be allowed to come back home. But I need for you to pay attention, because in all of this, just as it is today, they never commit to not making the same “mistakes”. Never truly repenting and saying with their mouths that they won’t sin against Him again. As He continues to offer an olive branch.
“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Make a fiery serpent [of bronze] and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten will live when he looks at it” (Numbers 21: 8, AMP). Because of the hardness of their hearts, they would not change their wicked ways. Continuing in selfishness and arrogance.
When you give an adulterer that is not truly repentant, unable to hold themselves accountable, without empathy and understanding, additional opportunities to rectify their wrongs, they are bound to continue in sinful wickedness. As it is written, “Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness” (Proverbs 30: 20, KJV).
Purify Your Hearts Ye Double-Minded
But when the Israelites looked on the bronze fiery serpent, they had no choice but to acknowledge in their hearts, God’s sovereignty and His ability to save. I have been meditating on this a lot lately. “Then He answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 4: 6, KJV). The flesh can never prevail against the spirit without the power and authority given of the LORD.
We are as dung, even less than filthy rags. Our life span is as a speck of sand. When I think of all the souls that have come and gone. Those who never even saw the light of day, and that none is forgotten before the LORD, man is insignificant in the grand scheme of His power. Yet we vaunt ourselves up like fools.
There are dimensions all around, unseen by man. Only fools dare fight against a Living God. “So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable” (2 Corinthians 4: 18, AMP).
And again, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, things which God hath prepared for them that love Him” (1 Corinthians 2: 9, KJV). We cannot comprehend its depth, unless by His grace it would be shown to us.
A Fool Says in His Heart That There is No God
He in His mercy answers all things in His Word, this is why those who hate Him, will forever remain lost. “But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. But the spiritual man [the spiritually mature Christian] judges all the things [questions, examines and applies what the Holy Spirit reveals], yet is himself judged by no one [the unbeliever cannot judge and understand the believer’s spiritual nature” (1 Corinthians 2: 14-15, AMP).
It is hard for me to put this into words, but the most imbecilic morons are those who mock and scoff. What is so sad is that they do it under the guise that they are wise. Egotists that have no idea of what is waiting for them. Their tongues are like serpents and asps. But as you discern their characters, they are miserable, unhappy, and just lost. They choose to disbelieve God and His Word. Confirmed by the definition of a scoffer: the manifestation of contempt by insulting words or actions (Pay attention!), it combines “bitterness” with ridicule.
I will say this again. The greatest gift given by my LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to me, is that He chose me! That He gave His life for me. This scripture was included in a post by Celestial, of “The Master’s Voice Prophecy Blog”, screaming aloud in my spirit, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD” (Psalm 118: 17, KJV).
Blessed is the Man Who Trusts in the LORD
The remainder of Numbers Chapter 21 recounts Israel’s continued journeys. As they sought passage to go through the lands, their enemies came against them, not allowing them to pass. When they came against Israel, a people that were stronger than them, God gave them into the Israelites hands. The Israelites ceased to murmur and complain at this time and the LORD was with them.
“And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders. And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
“And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong. And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof. For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon” (Numbers 21: 21-26, KJV).
So Shall My Word Be That Goeth Forth Out of My Mouth
As the Israelites walked in obedience and trust in the LORD they prospered. Being used as His tool of punishment for those lands that worshipped false gods and idols. Even conquering the Nephilim in the land. The giants, whom they feared previously.
“And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei. And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. “So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land” (Numbers 21: 33-35, KJV).
God had taken away all the distractions and all the excuses from the midst of the Israelites, so that they were without excuse. Belief in God is integral. So meditate on this as I close. For when you can’t see the end.
“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth My counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it” (Isaiah 46: 9-11, KJV).
God is multidimensional! Speaking into the past, present, and future. He is that “I AM”.
