Now Is Not the Time to Waiver (2)

As we continue into chapter 23 of the Book of Numbers, it will be obvious that who God blesses is “blessed”. And no man can turn it but the one who it was bestowed upon. Man’s consecration depends on him.

One thing that is obvious about Balaam, is that he did not know God at all. He was not a prophet of the LORD. But God still used him in the moment.

I will give most of this chapter in the amplified version because it may enhance your understanding. Seek God for discernment and clarification. It is of Him that I chose this path.

“Then Balaam said to Balak, ‘Build seven altars for me here, and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams here’. Balak did just as Balaam had said, and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar. Then Balaam said to Balak, ‘Stand beside your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever He shows me I will tell you’. So he went to a desolate hill” (Numbers 23: 1-3, AMP).

God is a Spirit

These men did not know how to offer sacrifices to God. They treated Him as if they could summon Him in the same manner as they called and worshiped their false gods and idols. But as we delve further, God never entreated them with His presence. Balaam just hoped and prayed that he would not be embarrassed if God did not answer.

Balaam would leave their presence to avoid the shameful humiliation that he would experience, had God not answered him. Because he had enough knowledge of Him to know that he could not answer falsely in this situation. As it is written, “The LORD looks [down] from heaven; He sees all the sons of man; From His dwelling place He looks closely upon all the inhabitants of the earth” (Psalm 33: 13-14, AMP).

God can speak to any man, but because of our sinful nature, we would be destroyed, consumed in the process. He allowed Balaam to be used, not as a prophet, but with prophetic utterance in the moment. God spared Balaam’s life in this chapter to speak to His people not only of what is, but of what was, and is to come. He is, as I have stated, multidimensional.

“And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountains smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die” (Exodus 20: 18-19, KJV).

Do Not Profane What is Holy

“Now God met Balaam, who said to Him, ‘I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered a bull and a ram on each altar’. Then the LORD put a speech in Balaam’s mouth, and said, ‘Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus. Balaam returned to Balak, and behold, he was standing by his burnt sacrifice, he and all the leaders of Moab. Balaam took up his [first] discourse (oracle) and said: ‘Balak, the king of Moab, has brought me from Aram (Syria), from the mountains of the east, [saying,] Come, curse [the descendants of] Jacob for me; and come [violently] denounce Israel’” (Numbers 23: 4-7, AMP).

I want to pause for a moment and clarify and confirm a couple of things: Discourse can mean to reason or dispute. To relate something. To utter or give forth; to speak. Oracle is defined as a “divine” utterance delivered to man, usually in answer to a request for guidance. A sacred, spiritual and eternal revelation to humans from God, often delivered through an intermediary.

Here is more insight into the character of Balaam with clarification. I watched a sermon with Pastor Omar Thibeaux of “School of The Hebrews”. He expounded on this scripture that is often taken out of context. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10: 10, KJV).

Satan is Lord Over the Thieves

As he explained, it is attributed to Satan because those whom this passage refers to is not doing the true work of the LORD. The pastor then goes on to confirm this even further. “If a kingdom is divided [split into factions and rebelling] against itself, that kingdom cannot stand” (Mark 3: 24, KJV).

In a past post, I mentioned how the devil can gain an advantage over the saints if they take God’s word in part. So, I want to expound that the “thief” is revealed as being the false prophets. These verses precede John 10:10. “So Jesus said again, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, I am the Door for the sheep [leading to life]. All who came before Me [as false messiahs and self-appointed leaders] are thieves and robbers, but the [true] sheep did not hear them. I am the Door; anyone who enters through Me shall be saved [and will live forever], and will go in and out [freely], and find pasture (spiritual security)” (John 10: 7-9, AMP).

These follow John 10:10. “But the hired man [who merely serves for wages], who is neither the shepherd nor the owner of the sheep, when he sees the wolf coming, deserts the flock and runs away; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. The man runs because he is a hired hand [who serves only for wages] and is not concerned about the [safety of the] sheep” (John 10: 12-13, KJV).

The False Prophets Are Preparing Those Destined for Destruction

These false prophets are not running from the “wolf” but are going against God. They are doing the true will of their father. “No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house” (Mark 3: 27, KJV). The “thief” lays the trap. He sets the bait.

God is multidimensional. Remember this. He is not only blessing Israel through Balaam, but again, He is speaking of His preparation to bring Israel into the land that He sware to give to them in the last days.

“How shall I curse those whom God has not cursed? Or how can I [violently] denounce those that the LORD has not denounced? For from the tops of the rocks I see Israel, and from the hills I look at him. Behold, the people [of Israel] shall dwell alone and will not be reckoned among the nations” (Numbers 23: 8-9, AMP). It is confirmed! “And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent” (Revelation 12: 14, KJV).

Balaam knew who he was. Every man or woman that professes to be a prophet is not of God. “Who can count the dust (the descendants) of Jacob and the number of even the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God], and let my end be like his!” (Numbers 23: 10, AMP).

The Hedge of Protection is Over the LORD’s Anointed

Enemies will gather together against His anointed in dark places with dark sayings. Occultists, sorcerers, witches, and the like. Incantations, voodoo, and divination. Trinkets are given by Satan to appease them in their pride and arrogance.

Know of a surety that they will not prevail against God’s chosen: “Have You not put a hedge [of protection] around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands [and conferred prosperity and happiness upon him], and his possessions have increased in the land” (Job 1: 10, AMP).

“Then Balak said to Balaam, ‘What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but here you have [thoroughly] blessed them instead!’ Balaam answered, ‘Must I not be obedient and careful to speak what the LORD has put in my mouth?’ Balak said to him, ‘Come with me, I implore you, to another place from where you can see them, although you will see only the nearest and not all of them; and curse them for me from there” (Numbers 23: 11-13, AMP). In his persistence, he moved to target a smaller portion of the group. Realizing Balaam’s limited scope and ability.

Even in all that the LORD has given unto Satan, he is still very limited in power, compared to his Creator. Why was Balak looking to God when they were serving the adversary?

God is Not a Man That He Should Lie

“So he took Balaam to the field of Zophim to the top of [Mount] Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar. Balaam said to Balak, ‘Stand here beside your burnt offering while I go to meet the LORD over there.’ Then the LORD met Balaam and put a speech in his mouth, and said, ‘Go back to Balak and you shall speak thus.’ When Balaam returned to Balak, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab were with him. And Balak said to him, ‘What has the LORD spoken?’” (Numbers 23: 14-17, AMP).

Now I will deliver verses 19-23 from the King James Version, with the exception of verse 18. Please listen!

“Balaam took up his [second] discourse (oracle) and said: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and He hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

“He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a King is among them. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a unicorn. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, What hath God wrought! Behold, the people shall rise up as the great lion, and lift up himself like a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain” (Numbers 23: 21-24).

God Will Always Prevail Over His Enemies

As I come to a close in this chapter, I want to remind you of the diligence of the wicked. This is why you may forgive but it is never wise to forget. Why I strongly believe that when you show me who you are, I believe you!

“Then Balak said to Balaam, ‘Neither curse them at all nor bless them at all!’ But Balaam answered Balak, ‘Did I not say to you, all that the LORD speaks, that I must do?’ Then Balak said to Balaam, ‘Please come; I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.’

“So Balak brought Balaam to the top of [Mount] Peor, that overlooks the wasteland. And Balaam said to Balak, ‘Build seven altars for me here, and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams here.’ Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar” (Numbers 23: 25-30, AMP).

What the Holy Spirit is revealing to me is that Balaam was used to dealing with the spiritual realm. Because God approached him in a manner that allowed him to live and not be consumed by His presence, he mistakenly categorized Him as another entity that can be controlled, even as Satan would allow for a time. Even the devil and the fallen angels are not shown all of God’s power and glory, or given access to all of His knowledge. Because He knows the nature of man and beast. But even the devil was shown enough. “He said to them, I watched Satan fall from heaven like [a flash of] lightning” (Luke 10: 18, AMP).

Be Sober and Diligent

Meditate on these:

1) “There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked” (Isaiah 48: 22, KJV).

2) “Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5: 8, AMP).

And 3) “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence” (Proverbs 4: 14-17, KJV).
