The Power of Prayer!!!
This evening, I found out that someone that I cared for on many occasions had died. It broke my heart because she was critically injured during an altercation, and no one said anything to me about it until it was too late. She hung on for a few days after but succumbed to her injury.
The LORD spoke to my spirit that she was given time to allow someone the opportunity to intercede for her. It is what hurt me more than anything.
In the past I remember two performers, Gregory Hines and Luther Vandross who were sick around the same time. The former whose illness was kept a secret, and the latter, who had loved ones ask the public to pray for him. Luther Vandross recovered and survived for two more years while Gregory Hines died in the self-same year of 2003. And as both of these individuals were being discussed, it was made clear that this was the result of the power of prayer. And I never forgot this because I knew that this was of God.
Death is final. And if you have not lived according to the laws and statutes of God, in right standing according to His will, then it is “a wrap” as they say. You don’t get a second chance. Your outcome has been finalized. I don’t know why this is not understood by people. This used to be the message preached at funerals all the time. But as usual, we hear what we want to hear. Even when it is too late.
I hear people say all the time, “They lived a good life and now they are in heaven”. Many times, I think to myself, “How do you know? Did they really know God? Did they have an intimate relationship with Jesus?” Or are you one of many who believe that certain attributes and entitlement automatically get you a pass, even as you live ungodly lives and did, or defended, or overlooked every manner of evil?
Man Born of a Woman is Of Few Days and Full of Trouble
I am heartbroken as this was a young lady, not even thirty years old, who lost a son at a very young age. Who also left other children behind. These kids are young and vulnerable. So, this is the message I left my children because she was their niece.
“Someone give my condolences to your dad. (I had not done so at that time.) And if you ever know of someone in your family that needs prayer never hesitate to let me know. It may be that God may have mercy on them!!!
“Please don’t do this again. Don’t just go through life overlooking evil. I feel as if she was allowed to hold on so that someone could have stood in the gap and made intercession for her. It really hurts for me to know this. No matter what had happened in the past, I would have prayed for her.
“Many people die because there is no one who lifts them in prayer. It is very selfish for people not to ask for prayer for their loved ones. I am not mad at anyone. I just want you to remember this”.
In my last post, I touched on this and will expound on it. “And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD to provoke Him to anger. For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also” (Deuteronomy 9: 18-19, KJV).
The Prayer of a Righteous Man Availeth Much
And again, “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the LORD shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5: 15-16, KJV).
For a third time, “And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job” (Job 42: 7-8, KJV).
Meditate in these things as I go into the tenth chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy. The Bible has set forth a standard on how we are to approach our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
“O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hands are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is His also. The sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our Maker” (Psalm 95: 1-6, KJV).
For God Does Not Hear Sinners
But remember, “Let us approach [God] with a true and sincere heart in unqualified assurance of faith, having had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water” (Hebrews 10: 22, AMP). We cannot go to God any way that we want to. “The man replied, ‘Well this is astonishing! You don’t know where He comes from, and yet He opened my eyes! We know [according to your tradition] that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone fears God and does His will, He hears him. Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this Man were not from God, He would not be able to do anything [like this because God would not hear His prayer]” (John 9: 30-33, AMP).
As we are in the last days it is written that many lives will be lost as they turn from God. As I listened to the recent revelations from Celestial of “The Masters Voice Prophecy Blog”, she gave a clear definition of the word perish, and because I myself never knew the correct meaning, I was led to look it up. “To suffer death, typically in a violent, sudden, or untimely way” (Oxford Dictionary).
“At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand.
“And He wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me. And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazer his son ministered in the priest’s office in his stead” (Deuteronomy 10: 1-6, KJV).
Only God Can Kill and Make Alive
God established the foundation not once but twice. According to Merriam-Webster an ark is “something that affords protection and safety”. Three notable arks were made, including the ark which Noah built that preserved him, his family, and all the other inhabitants from the most devastating flood ever recorded in the history of the earth. And the Ark of the Covenant, according to the verifying source mentioned above, “the sacred chest representing to the Hebrews the presence of God among them”. All three represent God’s dominion and supreme authority. His everlasting omnipotent, omnipresent power and control.
Yet I digress. Years were added unto Aaron’s life. Remember, “And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time” (Deuteronomy 9: 20, KJV). Prayer is powerful. Another example is how Hezekiah was given fifteen more years because of his humility before the LORD, as He acknowledged that only God holds the power of life and death of all people and things in His hand.
Please read chapter 38 in the Book of Isaiah in its entirety, for context. “In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, and said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee (urgently and fervently, I beg thee), how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
“Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city” (Isaiah 38: 1-6, KJV).
The LORD Full of Mercy, Sovereign, and Majestic
Now before I move on, I want to delve a little deeper into not only how the LORD delivered Hezekiah, but in showing His sovereign power to him. So that Hezekiah would know that the LORD is all powerful, Almighty and Supreme in His immutability.
“And this shall be the sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He hath spoken; Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down” (Isaiah 38: 7-8, KJV).
“From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto Him, and to bless His name, unto this day. Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him” (Deuteronomy 10: 7-9, KJV).
His promise was to always take care of them by His supernatural power. They would never want for anything, as all the other tribes were commanded to support and take care of them. As the Levites cared for them. God Himself was their reward.
Last night I was talking to one of my sons who is struggling spiritually. It was so visible in his eyes. The physical and psychological impact was immense. I feared for him. Satan is fighting to keep him bound and stagnant, as he wishes to consume him. As the LORD is speaking into my spirit even confirming a small bit of the conversation that I had with him. I warned him that he has to choose his “hard”. While dispelling the myth that following Jesus leads to a “soft” life.
Satan Comes but to Steal, Kill, and Destroy
“And the LORD said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (the amplified version continues) but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the faith]” (Luke 22: 31-32).
I told him that it is okay to be scared when God asks you to step away from familiarity and sin. But that he must step out in faith and trust that God is the Father and He loves His children. That he must not continue to ignore Him lest a worse thing comes upon him.
Even after he continues to reject the LORD that He may leave off from talking to my son completely. Leading to fatal and eternal spiritual death. There were many other components to this very lengthy conversation that I won’t divulge here. But I reminded him that I always pray for all of my children. (I see the enemy attacking them because they are unaware of his wiles. I look into their eyes and see the anguish, torment, agony, and distress.) I told him that it is okay to ask Jesus to increase his faith. That starts with him stepping out in obedience.
“And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people (move forward and keep moving), that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the LORD, and His statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? (Deuteronomy 10: 10-13, KJV).
Will All Your Knowledge Get Understanding
So let me point out another profound revelation that Celestial gave in reference to this scripture. “But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the scroll until the end of time. Many will go back and forth and search anxiously [through the scroll], and knowledge [of the purpose of God as revealed by His prophets] will [greatly] increase” (Daniel 12: 4, AMP). What she said is that knowledge will increase but that doesn’t mean that our understanding will. Ouch! But hasn’t this been confirmed since the beginning of man’s time. Because we have had this Word and we still err. She also reaffirmed what my grandmother used to tell me often. That “Sheol” which is hell, enlarges itself everyday”! This is why we are told, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4: 7, KJV).
So take heed to the commands and warning as we close out this chapter. God’s love and mercy bestowed upon you. The simplicity of what He asks. Is it really too much? Because in every next breath, you have a chance to be righteous according to His Word. To see His face in peace. What He demands of you is for your good. Why don’t you see and know His love for you?
“Behold, the heavens and the highest of heavens belong to the LORD your God, the earth and all that is in it. Yet the LORD had a delight in loving your fathers and set His affection on them, and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day. So circumcise [that is, remove sin from] your heart, and be stiff-necked (stubborn, obstinate) no longer. For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the LORD of lords, the great, the mighty, the awesome (terrible) God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe (He regardeth not persons. He is no respecter of persons. Do you understand?).
God is Not a Respecter of Persons
“He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the stranger (foreigner) by giving him food and clothing. Therefore, show your love for the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. You shall fear [and worship] the LORD your God [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect]; you shall serve Him and cling to Him [hold tightly to Him, be united with Him] (let me add, even intertwined), and you shall swear oaths by His name. He is your praise and glory; He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome (terrible) things which you have seen with your own eyes. Your fathers went down to Egypt , seventy persons [in all], and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven” (Deuteronomy 10: 14-22, AMP).
As recommended to my son, I say this to all, at the end of the day, meditate in the LORD. At the beginning of the day, seek Him, in praise and prayer, when you first open up your eyes. To see everything that He does for you, blessings great and small. Let it be confirmed! And know this, “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with thee” (Psalm 139: 17-18, KJV).
“For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of disaster and collapse” (Proverbs 24: 16-17, AMP). And finally, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish” (Isaiah 41: 10-11, KJV).
