The Wisdom of God’s Laws
As we enter chapter four of the Book of Deuteronomy let us focus on the righteousness of God. To obey is crucial. We will either choose life or death. There are no other options.
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24: 15, KJV). Joshua was informing them that it is impossible to be neutral and that no matter where we are, to the four corners of the earth, evil is present.
The LORD made it clear from the beginning. “I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding closely to Him; for He is your life [your good life, your abundant life, your fulfillment] and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD promised (swore) to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” (Deuteronomy 30: 19-20, KJV).
It is urgent as we see unrighteous laws being passed swiftly every day, that we have an understanding of God’s righteous statutes and commands. We must be able to internalize His Word. Hiding it in our hearts that we may not sin against Him. It is only by hearing and understanding the Word of the LORD that we can accomplish this.
As It Is in Heaven, So Shall It Be on Earth
Here is the warning and afterwards I will confirm it while revealing God’s consequences. These have been established in heaven and on earth.
“Now, O Israel, listen and pay attention to the statutes and the judgments (God’s legal decisions) which I am teaching you to do, so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I am commanding you” (Deuteronomy 4: 1-2, AMP).
People are laughing and agreeing to the egregious acts that are happening around us. But take heed.
“I testify and warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book [its predictions, consolations, and admonitions]: if anyone adds [anything] to them, God will add to him the plagues (afflictions, calamities) which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from or distorts the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away [from that one] his share from the tree of life and from the holy city (new Jerusalem), which are written in this book” (Revelation 22: 18-19, AMP).
The gravity of this is that it is the last written warning in God’s Word and it is being fulfilled quickly and in rapid succession right before our eyes. And the condemned of the LORD cannot even perceive it.
His Laws Are for Your Wisdom and Understanding
“Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at Baal-peor; for all the men who followed [and participated in the worship of] Baal of Peor, the LORD your God destroyed them from among you, but you who held tightly to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you. Look, I have taught you statutes and judgments just as the LORD my God has commanded me, so that you may do them in the land which you are entering to possess.
“So keep them and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples (or nations) who will hear all these statutes and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God [is to us] whenever we call on Him? Or what great nation has statutes and judgments so righteous (upright, just) as this whole law which I am placing before you today?” (Deuteronomy 4: 3-8, AMP).
As I listen to the diatribe of men and women in leadership, the psychopathic, recalcitrant behaviors, I notice that there is a severe break in perception. Psychosis is pervading the minds of many. And the truly frightening thing is that it is becoming the “normal” state of being. A “trickle-down effect” being effectively spewed to the masses. The Holy Spirit had me to do some research as He was confirming to me that this is of Him. Educating me that racism is one type or form of psychosis. Discussions were held in the past to classify this type of ideology as a mental health disorder. Why do you think that it never happened?
A Liar Shall Not Tarry in My Sight
This goes even deeper. Meditate on this also, “If Satan casts out Satan [that is, his demons], he has become divided against himself and disunited; how then will his kingdom stand?” (Matthew 12: 26, AMP).
These next scriptures will be given in the amplified version, but we are warned to take heed to thyself and to diligently keep our souls!
“Only pay attention and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your grandchildren [impressing these things on their mind and penetrating their heart with these truths]—especially the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb (Mount Sinai), when the LORD said to me, Assemble the people to Me and I will let them hear My words so that they may learn to fear Me [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect] all the days they live on the land, so that they may teach their children.’” (Deuteronomy 4: 9-10, AMP).
As we continue I want to touch on one of the most egregious forms of idolatry. The most popular depiction of Jesus Christ by Warner Sallman, “The Head of Christ”. Through a partnership with two publishing companies. One Protestant and the other Catholic. Along with other portraits combining “gods” and pagans. All with ulterior motives, including colonization, oppression, and racist agendas, to name a few. Even symbolism and imaging that depicts Him correctly as a Black man. It is all sin and we are warned against it.
God Is the Spirit of Truth
I can’t even listen to any man that comes to me with any depiction of Jesus. If I may be blunt, particularly Sallman’s version. It shows me that you don’t accept the full truth of God’s chosen people. It is why we are so hated. This is of Satan and violates God’s law and commandments. God is a Spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and in truth. Who is any man that would lie and distort God’s right to choose in what order He created man. The Holy Spirit would ask me all the time, “Why do they hate you so?”. Here is the confirmation even before we proceed.
“The God who created the world and everything in it, since He is LORD of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, because it is He who gives to all [people] life and breath and all things. And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands and territories” (Acts 17: 24-26, AMP).
This is what bothers every other nation. The fact that if not for God and His chosen vessels, no other nation would exist. And for many this is a hard pillow to swallow. But this was not of us but God, so you fight against Him, the Author and Finisher of all things.
“You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the [very] heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud, and thick gloom. Then the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form—there was only a voice. So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to follow, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
You Shall Have No Other gods Before Me
“The LORD commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and judgments, so that you might do them in the land which you are going over to possess. So pay attention and watch yourselves carefully—for you did not see any form [of God] on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire—so that you do not act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved or sculpted image [to worship] in the form of any figure, the likeness of male and female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, or any winged bird that flies in the sky, the likeness of anything that crawls on the ground, or of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth.
“And beware that you do not raise your eyes toward heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and let yourselves be led astray and worship them and serve them, [mere created bodies] which the LORD your God allotted to [serve and benefit] all the peoples under the whole heaven” (Deuteronomy 4: 11-19, AMP).
As I am preparing this, I want you to realize that when God first showed himself to Moses, it was in a burning bush. When He showed Himself to the Israelites, the WHOLE mountain burned with fire. And as He warned them not to worship any likeness of anything that crawls on the ground, this includes the serpent, who was cursed to do so, when Satan took his form (possessed him).
This commandment is so important, that it is the first foundational law given to the Israelites. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me” (Exodus 20: 3-5, KJV).
Judgment is Upon the Land
When I am preparing the work that God gives me, He tends to reveal many more hidden truths that I don’t divulge because I would not be able to finish in the here and now. But it is vital to study and go in depth in His Word. He is a revealer of secrets. A rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
In this country, there are statues and graven images everywhere. Many of whom are individuals and symbols of heinous acts. Worshipped by people who are okay with the principles of Satan: to kill, steal, and destroy. The reality is that these are their contributions and because of lack of self-esteem, and a willingness to repent, they are willing to hold on to this Neanderthal barbarism for dear life, even now. Satan has and still truly deceives many. The truth hurts but a remnant shall be set free.
Even the ones that are being deported or who are unable to enter Babylon, cannot see God’s protection. Particularly as those who rejoice and laugh, are unable to see God’s divine retribution. Liken it unto the wall that was being built. Was it really to keep the immigrants out or to keep you in. You are walking in deep spiritual darkness, when you are unable to see God’s mercy and His judgment. Preparation is necessary for Revelation chapters 17-18 to come to pass.
Sin and iniquity are the reason why when God spoke to the Israelites, they saw thick clouds of darkness and gloom. God is a consuming fire, righteous in judgment. His reward is with Him.
And knowing His judgment many continue to murder and oppress, being fearful of it being done unto them. Or so they say. But again, I say that you fight against God. “For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head” (Obadiah 1: 15, KJV). Yet I digress.
Our God is a Consuming Fire
“But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto Him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:”.
(Let me pause for a moment. Moses was a great leader that truly regretted allowing the actions of these people to persuade him in making “one life-altering decision”. It hurt him that after all he did for them, his life-saving intercessions on their behalf, that this was his judgment. That they should get to reap the reward that he forfeited. As a man, this truly bothered him. Why else did he remind them of it every chance he could. Yet he was still expected to remain grounded in servant leadership. Doing just that because of his love for God.)
“But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land. Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which He made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God” (Deuteronomy 4: 20-24, KJV).
Moses then begins to prophesy to the people of Israel of what will happen to them when they break the LORD’s laws. As it is to this day.
The Consequences of Disobedience
“When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke Him to anger: I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
“And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you. And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell” (Deuteronomy 4: 25-28, KJV).
Here is a reminder, Moses called Heaven and Earth because they are immovable, living, and eternal witnesses, created by God Himself. Entities that can only ever be destroyed by the one true living God. This prophecy is firmly established and will never be broken by mere men. But in the LORD’s grace and mercy, He made a way of escape if we would only listen and obey. Seeking Him completely, in sincere, true repentance. Because even unto the end of days, He is the Covenant Keeper!
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto His voice; (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) He will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which He sware unto them” (Deuteronomy 4: 29-31, KJV).
God Chose Israel to Be His People
Even though God’s sovereignty is put into this great Book for all who believe on His Son, Jesus Christ to be saved, they were done among His chosen people. Whose descendants are witnesses, to the works of the Almighty. “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth Him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with Him” (Acts 10: 34-35, KJV).
“For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the days that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
“Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD He is God; there is none else beside him” (Deuteronomy 4: 32-35, KJV).
God’s presence is manifested all around us. Without saying a word, or making Himself known to us personally, He still exists. “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1: 20, KJV).
God’s Mercy is Not a Right, But a Privilege
And yet He chose to make Himself known to the Israelites. God is infinitely ubiquitous, yet He can withdraw His presence being untouchable, unknown, and unable to be found. His favor should never be taken for granted.
“Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD He is God; there is none else beside Him. Out of heaven He made thee to hear His voice, that He might instruct thee: and upon earth He shewed thee His great fire; and thou heardest His words out of the midst of the fire.
“And because He loved thy fathers, therefore He chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in His sight with His mighty power out of Egypt; To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day. Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD He is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else” (Deuteronomy 4: 35-39, KJV).
Now here is the caveat. As I have stated from the beginning, you can’t live any way you want and think that you will see God’s face in peace. “Thou shalt keep therefore His statutes, and His commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever” Deuteronomy 4: 40, KJV).
Be Holy for I am Holy
In the LORD’s just righteousness, He continued to make specific provisions for His people. Because God is holy, and does not dwell in the midst of sinners, those who committed manslaughter, had to be separated from the rest of the people of Israel. (Remember that the LORD had promised to dwell in the midst of Israel.) But as long as they remained in the cities while the High Priest was alive, they would not be killed. And had a chance to return to their families. Let me reiterate, that there were stipulations for the character and acts of the person.
“Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising; that the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbor unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live: Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites” (Deuteronomy 4: 41-43, KJV). Pay attention that it said that Moses SEVERED three cities on this side Jordan toward the SUNRISING.
Now as we close out this chapter, Moses was making the expectations clear before they moved on to conquer the other side of the Jordan. Reiterating that it is God that is fighting for them. That they are merely weak vessels fighting giants and other nations stronger than they. They were battling and defeating Nephilim and warriors. That it was not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the LORD.
The LORD Will Fight for You
“And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel: these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt, on this side Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:
“And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising: from Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, which is Hermon, and all the plain on this side Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah” (Deuteronomy 4: 44-49, KJV).
As I conclude this chapter, it reminds me that I will never understand how anyone could not love the LORD, my God with all their hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. What I do know is that it proves that those who don’t love Him, don’t know Him. Because He truly is love.
